One of the best ways to add a significant amount of points / miles to your chosen points / miles balance in a relatively short amount of time, is with a rewards credit card. There are a number of reward cards available from banks own to airline cards, each of which have their own merits and can help you get closer to free flights (tax payable) or hotel stays. Why we like: With the 10,000 point sign-up bonus, earning rates and no fee for the 1st year, the American Express® Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card is a great 1st rewards card to start you off on you points adventure. Your points are not tied down to a specific airline or hotel program. The points (which do not expire) can be transferred to any of Amex’s partners or used to offset purchases made on your card. The Avios can be used for reward flights or for upgrades. BA has an extensive route network for Avios redemption. Additional Benefits: 0% for 6 months on balance and money transfers (you’ll pay a 3% fee). Mastercard is widely accepted around the world. Anniversary Bonus: Choose from an upgrade to Premium or a Companion ticket when you spend £10,000 in a year. Card APR: The card has a representative APR of 63.9% variable and a purchase rate of 22.9% variable with an assumed credit limit of £1,200. There is an annual fee of £160. Why we like: With the 15,000 Flying Club miles sign-up bonus and great earning rates especially if you purchase flights or holidays with Virgin, the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card is a great rewards card if you use Virgin Atlantic as your preferred airline. In addition, the spend dependant anniversary bonus can be redeemed as a 2 for 1 or upgrade voucher.
